‘Cockroach Janta Party’s X account stays blocked’: Delhi HC denies immediate restoration, sends CJP’s plea for review
The High Court granted four weeks for the Centre to file a detailed affidavit responding to the allegations raised in the petition.
India’s latest viral political moment did not come from a rally or a press conference. It came from a Google Form and a name that nobody took seriously at first.

On May 15, 2026, Chief Justice Surya Kant made remarks during Supreme Court hearing on fake professional credentials. He said: “There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment or have any place in profession. Some of them become media, some of them become social media, RTI activists and other activists and they start attacking everyone.”
The remark spread fast. The Chief Justice later clarified that his oral observations were directed at people allegedly using fake degrees to enter professions such as law and media, and not at unemployed youth. Till then, the internet had already moved.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a satirical Indian political movement founded on May 16, 2026, by Abhijeet Dipke, a former social media strategist for the Aam Aadmi Party.

Dipke is a 30-year-old digital media strategist originally from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He studied journalism in Pune before relocating to the US to pursue a master’s degree in public relations at Boston University. From 2020 to 2022, he was employed by Aam Aadmi Party’s social media staff.
During the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, he played a role in creating viral meme-based content for the party’s campaign.
He set up a website and social media accounts for the Cockroach Janta Party, a play on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Instagram and X.
Dipke’s first post was deliberately casual: “Launching a new platform for all the ‘cockroaches’ out there. Eligibility criteria: Unemployed. Lazy. Chronically online. Ability to rant professionally.”
The party’s website, cockroachjantaparty (dot) org, went live the same day under the tagline “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed.”
As outrage escalated on social media, Dipke posted on X: “What if all cockroaches come together?” The response surprised even him.

The numbers tell the story clearly. Within 48 hours, those youngsters had a party, a five-point manifesto, an election symbol, and more than 25,000 registered members.
Within 48 hours, the Cockroach Janata Party had launched a party anthem, a website, and garnered over four million followers on Instagram. Almost 1 lakh people have registered as members of the online political movement.
Two sitting Members of Parliament accepted honorary CJP cards; Mahua Moitra (TMC, Krishnanagar) and Kirti Azad (TMC, Bardhaman-Durgapur).
Mahua Moitra posted: “I too would like to join the CJP (besides being a card-carrying member of the Anti-National Party).” The CJP responded: “You are the fighter democracy needs, Mahua Moitra.”
Kirti Azad, a former cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, playfully enquired about requirements to join. The CJP responded: “Winning the 1983 World Cup is a good enough qualification.”
The CJP describes itself as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth: Secular, Socialist, Democratic, and Lazy.”
The party’s three-word motto is “Unity. Resilience. Progress.” Its website states: “A political party for the people the system forgot to count. Five demands. Zero sponsors. One large, stubborn swarm.”
Despite its satirical nature, the party released a formal five-point manifesto. Here is what it demands:
One: No Chief Justice shall be granted a Rajya Sabha seat as a post-retirement reward.
Two: If any legitimate vote is deleted, the Chief Election Commissioner shall be arrested under UAPA, as taking away voting rights is “no less than terrorism.”
Three: Women shall receive 50% reservation (instead of 33%) without increasing the strength of Parliament, and 50% of all Cabinet positions shall be reserved for women.
Four: All media houses owned by Adani Group and Reliance Industries shall have their licences cancelled to make way for independent media. Bank accounts of “Godi media anchors” shall be investigated.
Five: Any MLA or MP who defects from one party to another shall be barred from contesting elections, and from holding any public office, for 20 years.
The party is not yet registered with the Election Commission of India. It openly calls itself a satirical political movement and a public-pressure campaign.
Dipke has acknowledged the movement may die out quickly, stating: “I am not delusional; I know this can die out in a few days.”
Dipke said: “The Cockroach Janta Party was supposed to be a joke. But I had not expected it would draw such an encouraging response. Seems the youth of our country identify with it.”
